Smithy to set down as manager at the end of this season. Understandable as everything that has gone on this year must have taken a toll on him. The question is who will come in as manager and is this move a precursor to Smith selling the Club? Steve has never struck me as a good backseat driver, so if he stays the new manager will need a thick skin with clear lines in the sand around who does what. www.bsfc.co.uk/club-news/smith-to-step-down-as-first-team-manager/

I have often been critical of his tactics but I hope I have never been abusive.
The order of his statement (that he's made the decision for himself, his family and the club) may not go down well with some but, for me, it's right.
I hope the first people he told was the players, particularly given that he had got some of them to stay on next season on the basis that he would be in charge.
All the same, thanks for some great memories. This season will have tested the sanity of anyone in charge!

Sorry, Big Sam was spotted at Old Trafford on Sunday in conversation with Ratcliffe and Brailsford. I'd like to think we could get someone in who already knows the club and can keep the spirit built up over the past few years).

it's not going to happen (it'll be the least surprising managerial announcement ever i suspect) but I'd give it to Hainesy. Steve is still around, and doesn't strike me as someone who will let go of everything, so if he moves upstairs into some sort of Director of Football role then having effectively a Head Coach, Hainesy would be perfect for me. Has the respect of players & fans, knows the club inside out, and is respected throughout the game at this level (apart from the odd ref...)
We shouldn't underestimate the scale of the rebuild. Right now, there's every chance we could do a Concord and suffer back to back relegations. We're an absolutely atrocious team.

It's a shame to see Steve step down. He's not the greatest manager we've ever had but he did deliver a first league championship in about a third of a century,
It does raise questions about the future ownership of BSFC. Steve bought the club to be the manager, if he's really stepping completely away from the football side, I do wonder if he plans to stay around. If we're just going to give someone the job as head coach with Steve involved until we lose four straight and he takes over again, it all seems a bit pointless.
As for the rebuild being massive. Plenty of teams at the level we're now in recruit a whole new side in the close season. Plenty of managers move with their own core group of players. If we can find a manager with experience at this level, he will bring players with him. Where that goes wrong is when we appoint a "promising young manager" from Ryman North and he brings a group of Ryman North players who take up to Ryman North. I don't want to go to Ryman North.

I agree that Haines has been a great servant of the Club and is a genuinely nice bloke. However, Smith might as well continue himself next season if he is going to appoint Mark. Steve and Mark have worked together for over a decade now and part of next season’s rebuild needs to involve bring in independent, fresh thinking.
The big question for me is what budget Smith will set for next season. It will obviously be lower than this season, but will it be set at a level to allow us to compete for promotion next year? The answer to this question is likely to have a big influence on who we get as our next manager. For me the appointment of a young manager from, say, step 4 will not only signal Smith’s reluctance to let go of the reins, but also that we have a small uncompetitive budget. The appointment of an experienced manager who has worked at step 3 or step 2 and has great contacts at our level would signal that we have someone strong enough to stand up to Smith and be his own man, as well as the fact that he has been promised a budget sufficient to bring in the type of player he is used to working with at step 2 or 3.
Players and agents are already having conversations with clubs about where they might play next season and any new manager will want to be involved and have a say in our recruitment for next year, so I’m hoping for some news on our next manager fairly soon. But it is a vital appointment, so getting it right is more important than speed. Also, if the candidate is currently working at another club we might have to wait until after the end of this season to learn his identity.

I see some people wanting Haines Robbo what is the point Smithy might ad well stay on.We need new ideas on the field .Also they have no coaching and managerial experience in what ever league we will be in will be a tough gig .I suspect they will get the job and ofcourse l wish them well but hardly a reset
